Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 2003 · n=10 · rct · industry-funded
In vivo study (n=10): combination of 15% vitamin C + 1% vitamin E provided 4-fold photoprotection against UV-induced erythema and sunburn cells, compared to 2-fold for vitamin C alone and negligible protection for vitamin E alone; establishes synergistic antioxidant network in skin
Indian Dermatology Online Journal, 2016 · review
Comprehensive review covering photoprotection (reduces UV-induced erythema, DNA damage, and lipid peroxidation), wound healing (accelerates epithelialization at 5% topical concentration), and anti-inflammatory properties (inhibits PGE2 synthesis and reduces edema); contact dermatitis risk noted at ~1% incidence
Dermatologic Surgery, 2005 · review
Comprehensive review: alpha-tocopherol is the most abundant lipophilic antioxidant in human skin; protects cell membrane phospholipids from UV-induced peroxidation; topical application replenishes vitamin E depleted by UV exposure; optimal formulation at 2-5% in stable ester or free-acid form
