Systematic review of topical vitamin C for melasma and photoaging: concludes topical ascorbic acid improves photoaging signs (fine lines, roughness, pigmentation) and contributes to melasma lightening, supporting its use as an antioxidant/depigmenting agent, while formulation instability/oxidation and study heterogeneity limit firm conclusions.
