In a 6-week randomized crossover on-baby study, a shea butter-based emollient (SBE) diaper mitigated diapered-skin erythema as effectively as a petrolatum-based emollient and was well tolerated; infants wearing the SBE diaper were 2.6x more likely to be free of perianal erythema than with a non-emollient diaper.
