Systematic review of centella in dermatology: asiaticoside and madecassoside stimulate type I collagen synthesis, reduce inflammation via NF-κB inhibition, and promote wound healing; clinical evidence supports use for hypertrophic scars, burns, and barrier-impaired skin

Experimental Dermatology · 2008 · rct · n=20
Randomized double-blind trial (n=20 women, 6 months) of topical 5% vitamin C plus 0.1% madecassoside (a Centella asiatica triterpene) on photoaged skin: significant improvement in deep and superficial wrinkles, firmness, suppleness, roughness and hydration, with re-appearance of a normally structured elastic-fibre network in the papillary dermis.

Rat wound model: electrospun gelatin membranes containing Centella asiatica extract gave the highest wound recovery rate versus gauze, plain gelatin and a commercial dressing, promoting fibroblast proliferation and collagen synthesis with antibacterial activity; supports Centella's pro-healing effect (animal data, not a human RCT).
