Citric Acid Increases Viable Epidermal Thickness and Glycosaminoglycan Content of Sundamaged Skin

In sun-damaged skin treated with 20% citric acid lotion versus vehicle for three months, image analysis of biopsies showed increased viable epidermal thickness and dermal glycosaminoglycan content, changes comparable to those produced by glycolic acid, ammonium lactate and retinoic acid.
