In rats, sodium hydroxide skin contact caused second-degree (90 s) to third-degree (180 s) burns via lipid saponification and triggered ferroptosis: increased reactive oxygen species, ferrous iron, malondialdehyde and ACSL4/LPCAT3 expression with depleted GPX4 and glutathione, linking NaOH burn injury to disrupted lipid metabolism.
