Forty-five postburn hypertrophic scars were randomized to silicone gel, silicone gel sheeting, or topical onion extract with heparin and allantoin for 6 months. All groups significantly improved on the Vancouver Scar Scale, but the silicone products outperformed the allantoin-containing onion extract gel.

In 82 rosacea patients, 8-12 weeks of topical compound heparin sodium allantoin gel significantly reduced Clinician Erythema Assessment and Investigator Global Assessment grades plus burning/itching versus traditional therapy, while improving skin hydration and lowering transepidermal water loss.
