Using QCM-D and EIS on model lipid membranes, sodium lauroyl lactylate showed distinct membrane-disruptive activity, intermediate between lauric acid (weaker) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (stronger), supporting its potential as a membrane-disrupting antimicrobial. Its hydrolytic products caused more transient but less permanent membrane disruption.
