Treating human SZ95 sebocytes with palmitic acid, a major saturated free fatty acid of sebum, significantly increased intracellular lipid content and raised expression and secretion of proinflammatory cytokines (including IL-6 and IL-8) in a Toll-like-receptor-dependent manner, strengthening the proposed link between free fatty acids and acne aggravation.
